Enquire and discuss
Understand what type of connection is needed. Work with us and/or your service provider to determine whether a permanent connection is needed or a temporary connection. Before you apply, you'll want to know what size connection you need and what electricity retailer you want to connect to.
Some of the information you'll need before you apply includes:
- Bill payer contact details (the quote and invoice for any works completed will be sent to this person).
- Your electrician's details (if applicable).
- Technical information relating to what you need to connect and how (how much capacity is required - fuse/amp sizes).
Apply and explore
Complete your application online or engage with your service provider, who will apply for your connection. Once we have your application, we'll make sure that there is an available power supply to connect to at your property boundary or nominated connection point. If there isn't, we'll be in touch to discuss the process of getting power to your required connection point.
Design and approve
For simple connections, power is deemed to be at your property boundary or nominated connection point.
We'll engage with your chosen electricity retailer, who is required to accept the Installation Control Point (ICP) connection. They'll likely get in touch with you to confirm your details and make sure you are one of their customers (or sign you up if you aren't).
Deliver and build
For simple connections, most of the work is completed by your chosen service provider(s) - electrician, builder, etc. They will do the work on your property to ensure the service main (private line/ cable) is constructed and connected to the power at your property boundary/nominated connection point.
Connect and complete
When a simple connection is completed, you'll need to have this inspected and livened. EA Networks currently provide this service. We'll work with your service provider and your electricity retailer to have get this done. We generally take around 15 working days to complete this (once we have all required documentation). After the inspection and livening, you'll have power available and switched on at your site.
At this point, your energy retailer will begin billing you for electricity.
FAQ
What if I don't have power to the boundary?
If you don't have power to the boundary, you'll likely need to complete our standard connection application. We'll assess what you need in order to get connected and then work with your chosen electricity retailer and electrician to get the power switched on. You can find out more about our standard connections here.
How do I get the power turned on at my house or property?
You will need to sign up with an electricity retailer to have your power switched on. If you need a brand-new connection, including power to your boundary or connection point, you can find out more about our standard connection process here. If you already have power to the boundary and simply want the electricity switched on, complete our 'simple connection' form and we will work with your electricity retailer and electrician to make this happen.
How long will it take to get my power connected?
You should generally allow 3 - 4 weeks to get your power connected, providing that:
a) power is to the boundary and ready to be connected
b) we have received the required paperwork (for example Code of Compliance) from your electrician
c) we have received the required documentation from your chosen electricity retailer
Can my electrician connect my service main?
No. Only we can connect your service main to our network as we are familiar with the special safety requirements and our standards and procedures associated with any work on our network.
Can I change retailer / billing after I have been connected?
Yes. You can find a list of electricity retailers who operate on our network here. You simply contact your new chosen retailer and they will complete the switch for you.
If you have a bill from your current electricity retailer, we suggest you check out a Billy, a bill comparison site to help make the decision on which electricity retailer to go with easier. You can find more information on Billy here.
